Tallinn drops plan to close off right turn from Narva maantee to Kadriorg

Plans to limit traffic turning into Kadriorg from Narva maantee have been dropped after a public consultation on the reconstruction of Tallinn's Petrooleumi tänav.
ERR previously reported that Tallinn was planning to close off the right turn toward Kadriorg for motor traffic as part of the broader reconstruction of the Narva maantee junction.
The redesign aims to improve mobility options for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport alike. The plans were on public display from April 29 to May 12, and feedback will be analyzed before the project moves to the next stage.
"We want Petrooleumi tänav to be a convenient and safe movement space for everyone — pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike. The feedback received during the public display of the draft project gives us valuable input on the basis of which we can further refine the solution," Tallinn Deputy Mayor Kristjan Järvan (Isamaa) said.
He said the right turn will continue to stay open.
"Under the current solution, the possibility of turning from Narva maantee toward Koidula and Weizenbergi streets will remain in the future as well. Compared with earlier draft solutions, closing this connection is not planned," Järvan said.
Special emphasis is being placed on better integrating Petrooleumi tänav with the surrounding urban space and existing movement routes in order to improve connections both toward the city center and Kadriorg and make movement smoother and more logical.
Sten-Kristjan Saarik, head of the design division at Tallinn's Environment and Public Works Department, added that the current stage is intended to establish the direction of the solution.
"The draft project is not a final solution, but a basis for further work. All proposals received will be reviewed and, based on them, we will refine the project before the next steps," Saarik said.
