Monument To Fallen Servicemen Erected in Afghanistan

A memorial to the Estonian soldiers who have lost their lives in Afghanistan has been established at the Camp Bastion military base.
The monument was initiated in April by the Estonian Reserve Officers Kogu (EROK) and Parliament's national defense committee.
The fundraising activities resulted in donations of over 6000 euros from 114 people, the Defense Forces general staff said.
"I am sincerely glad that over 100 people responded to our call with donations and the idea of a memorial to fallen Estonian troops in Helmand has become a reality," said national defense committee chairman Mati Raidma. "Thanks to the donations it is certain that a memorial to those killed in Afghanistan will find a place on Estonian soil."
The monument was built so that it can be removed and relocated to Estonia when the Estonian mission in Afghanistan winds up.
Eight Estonians have been killed in Afghanistan during the ongoing war.
