Paet Supports Merkel, Takes Stance Against Eurobonds

Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Paet said that Estonia supports German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s stand against sharing Eurozone debt through bonds.
Merkel voiced her disapproval towards the joint Eurobonds on Tuesday, just two days before the European Union summit in Brussels.
Paet told uudised.err.ee that Merkel’s position was understandable. “Estonia also does not consider it right to share the large debt that some countries have accumulated over years, just out of solidarity,” said Paet.
Paet said Estonia has "always" supported the establishment of a mechanism that would discipline those Eurozone member states that systematically fail to comply with the rules and thereby threaten the stability of the euro.
