Tallinn public transport network changes to take effect in August

The third phase of changes to Tallinn's public transport network will take effect this August, with the changes mainly affecting the city districts of Haabersti, Kristiine and City Center.
Tallinn unveiled proposals for the third phase of changes to the public transport network in March and after meetings with residents and coordination with district governments, some amendments were made to the plans. The changes to bus routes will take effect this August.
Based on feedback, the city reversed some of the planned changes. For example, Route 13 will continue to pass through the Ülemiste City business district, although less extensively than at present. Routes 20 and 23 will also remain on their current routes, meaning the proposed changes will not be implemented.
Although residents of Kristiine strongly supported the planned changes to Route 28, which would have brought the route further into Kristiine and directed it to run the full length of Linnu tee, officials decided at the request of the district elder to leave the changes to Route 28 out of this package, at least for now.
However, Routes 1 and 14 will be merged, creating a new direct connection between Vana-Pääsküla and Viimsi.
Route 18 will begin operating along the current Route 18A corridor between Urda and Viru Center, stopping at all stops along the route.
Route 19, currently known as 20A, will be redirected from Laagri via Kadaka puiestee to Mäepealse tänav, then from Akadeemia tee via E. Vilde tee to the Lepistiku stop, continuing along Tammsaare tee and through Tondi tänav to Pärnu maantee and Liivalaia tänav, with Port of Tallinn's D-Terminal as its final destination.
The change will create an additional and faster connection to workplaces on Liivalaia tänav as well as a direct connection to the port. It will also provide City Center (Kesklinn) with more frequent service toward Mäepealse and Laagri.
Routes 21 and 21B will be merged, with the new Route 21 operating from Kakumäe to Viru Center via Vana-Rannamõisa tee.
Route 24 will begin running directly from Akadeemia tee to the Kadaka stop. However, because the Mäepealse and Rehe areas would otherwise lose their direct connection to the city center, a new Route 24A will be introduced. Longer articulated buses will be used on Route 24 instead of standard buses.
Routes 41 and 41B will also be merged.
While the original plan called for Routes 48 and 65 to be merged and for many of Route 48's stops to be eliminated, feedback led the city to retain the current Route 48 stops on the new Route 65.

Under additional new changes, Route 29 will be replaced by Route 31A, which will be extended to the Iru care home. The routes of 31 and 31A will be moved from Tähesaju tee back to Laagna tee.
At the request of Lahekalda residents, Route 44 will be extended into the Lahekalda residential quarter where a new bus stop will be added.
All of the changes can be viewed on a dedicated website.
