Tihvan initially shared first place with multiple European and world championship medalist Charles Bardou of France after both hit 197 of 200 targets in Thursday's competition.

A shoot-off beckoned, which Tihvan won after beating the French competitor by one target, making him the first Estonian to win the title.

Clay pigeon shooting is a type of practical hunting shooting which simulates real-world hunting conditions, instead of having flat and static ranges. Not "pigeons" as such, the targets are saucer shaped, made of pulverized limestone and brightly colored.

Compak Sporting is a discipline of clay pigeon shooting governed internationally by FITASC (Fédération Internationale de Tir aux Armes Sportives de Chasse). As its name suggests, it is held on a compact shooting layout designed for use in a smaller area, compared with standard competitive clay pigeon shooting.
