While the focus in the first year was on women artists, Kaamos has now decided that the scholarship's target group will change each year in order to draw attention to different groups within the Estonian art field and their work, and to keep the scholarship diverse and evolving over time.

The Kaamos art scholarship was established by the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Art and Estonian-owned investment firm Kaamos Group. Candidates are invited to apply until 28 September; artists may apply themselves or be nominated by someone working in the art field or by an art institution.

The recipient will be chosen by a jury consisting of Kumu curator Eha Komissarov, head of Tartu Art House and chair of the Tartu Artists' Union Peeter Talvistu, artist and artist‑salary recipient Marge Monko, one representative of the CCA and two representatives of Kaamos Group. The composition of the jury rotates partially every two years.

Last year, the first Kaamos scholarship was awarded to Anna Mari Liivrand. "The Kaamos scholarship came unexpectedly and at a very right moment for me," said last year's laureate. "With the support of the scholarship, I have been able to fully dedicate myself to both larger and smaller exhibition projects, and I see that it has helped me create more substantial and exciting works."
