Deputy director of government communications Liis Velsker said that on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, members of the government will start discussions on next year's state budget and the state budget strategy for the next four years.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Finance will present the summer economic forecast to the cabinet.

The economic forecast is used by the government and parliament when making budget‑policy decisions, and by businesses when preparing strategic plans. The explanatory memorandum also gives the wider public an overview of recent economic developments and the outlook for the next four years.

"Over the coming weeks, the government will discuss the budget. At the end of September, the government will approve the revenue, expenditure and other measures of the state budget and the state budget strategy, as well as the Health Insurance Fund's budget position for the next four years, and all draft laws related to next year's state budget. The goal is also to approve the allocation of EU support for the 2028–2034 period — the state plan," Velsker said.

She added that at the end of September, the government must submit the draft state budget for 2027 to the Riigikogu and approve the state budget strategy for 2027–2030. Before that, the government will hear the opinion of the Fiscal Council.
